‘You Could Have Been…’ is a children’s picture book for bereaved parents to read to their baby who died, or didn’t survive a pregnancy. It’s filled with a parent's wonder of who their child could have been if they’d had the chance to grow up. The book is written to the child, so a parent can talk to them about their lost hopes and dreams, but most importantly, their love.
The watercolour illustrations are by artist, Zheng Qu, and beautifully depict the essence of our very special children who are no longer with us.
Inspired by Morrie Schwartz’s words, “Death ends a life, not a relationship”, it is hoped that this book is a special way for bereaved parents, including those who experience early pregnancy loss, to continue a relationship with their child that they are unable to hold in their arms.
What people are saying:
“I’m so grateful that you have shared your love for Xavier with the release of your book. It’s mums like you that help make life a little more ‘do-able’ for those that are battling the same loss”
Ashleigh from NSW, Australia
"What you put together was brave, emotional and empowering. I was so nervous giving it to my friend as a gift, worried it might bring up challenging emotions, but your story assured me it's something people who have experienced this kind of loss will appreciate. It gave me space to tell my friend I love and honour her baby who was only here for a short time. My friend has messaged me tonight with heart felt thanks. Thank you for providing this narrative for mums, dads, siblings, family and friends to celebrate the life that was taken too soon”
Clare from VIC, Australia
“Your beautiful book arrived today. I was having the worst morning and this has just absolutely put me at peace. Your book is incredible, I love it so much and can not wait to sit in my son’s room and read it to him tonight”
